How we got started and continue...

In the summer of 2002, a group of friends started the Filipino Basketball League (FBL) in Juneau, Alaska’s Capital City.  The idea took root at a drinking session in a garage with Rino Salazar, a former PBA pro player and coach.  After that, an informal weekend tournament was organized among invited friends and family; the turnout was so successful that Juneau’s Filipino Basketball League was formed.

The FBL is not only a fun past-time, it promotes health and fitness among members and encourages engagement in positive activities.  It also enhances unity and camaraderie among Juneau’s Filipino-American families.

The FBL runs from May through the third week in August.  The eligibility requirements are: (a) 18 years of age or graduating high school that year; (b) Filipino descent or parent(s) must be Filipino descent; (c) married to someone of Filipino descent; and (d) paid member from the previous year or has paid current membership dues with the Filipino Community, Inc.

The FBL has been blessed with continued support from players, their families, the Filipino Community, Inc.,
and its Board of Directors.
